Boston firefighters were battling a monstrous 8-alarm fire Wednesday evening.
The
fire was reported in the city's East Boston section just before 7:30
p.m. By 9 p.m., firefighters were still showering water on the blazing
building and surrounding structures, according to NBC affiliate New England Cable News.
Fire officials told NECN the fire had been contained to the building where it had sparked.
The
building was occupied when the blaze broke out, with some people
inside. There were no major injuries, Fire Commissioner John Hassan told
NECN. A neighboring building was destroyed.
The residents in the affected building and neighboring structures have been accounted for, Hassan told the affiliate.
He
said three houses and a car were impacted by the fire. It appears the
fire was sparked in the basement of 85 Lexington St. It extended to a
car in the alley and from there to an adjacent building.
Now an 8th alarm with two extra ladders ordered.
